This may be the best way to send Elon a message that he can be removed (which I doubt is true) and get him back on track. Tesla needs a Gwynne Shotwell although I'm not sure if SpaceX really runs better or if we just have a smaller window into the mayhem because it's not public.
Elon's title at Tesla is not just CEO but also Technoking, that's a clue to how he sees the company, making that idea of X.ai plus Tesla seem more likely. I wonder if he has tried to get the board to buy it already which would basically be another move on the ledger for him and better protect the people/banks he went into debt with to buy Twitter. If Tesla loses at FSD and Waymo is able to turn its early lead into a true advantage, Tesla becomes less relevant quickly. I think Musk thinks the car is the iPhone but I think the car is more like the computer. If personal robots became viable that's the iPhone moment, I just think it's a lot farther off than he thinks.
Also noteworthy - there’s a Murdoch on the Tesla board!
Good point, Claire!
